Most of the members of Speedzone know me and know that I spent many years as a volunteer firefighter, I spent most of my time as a firefighter in a area that was prone to prarie fires and wildland fires along with structure fires. As a firefighter who spent 90 percent of his time as a firefighter fighting structure fires I have always thought those that fight wildland fires are absolutely NUTS, I would rather have a hose line and 40 to 70 lbs of gear to protect me. That said Wildland firefighters are the bravest of the bravest. They go into fires with only handtools and a fire shelter to protect them. The fire shelters were known as shake and bake bags because if you had to deploy them you knew you were in serious trouble. Yesterday, as I hope most of you know, 19 wildland firefighters were killed in the line of duty. They were caught in a situation where the fire shelters did not help them. The only member of the Hotshot Team to survive was moving the rig and that is what saved his life. Lets all as members of Diecast Speedzone take a moment and say a silent prayer for those that paid the ultimate sacrafice and for thier families and loved ones. Lets also stop and think about the brave men and women of the Fire Service who lay their lives on the line every day to protect us. This year has been a bad year for the fire service as of today 63 firefighters have paid the ultimate sacrafice. West Texas, Houston, Prescott, AZ to name a few have all had members die in the line of duty. Yesterday's deaths was the most that have died in the line of duty at one time since 343 FDNY brothers gave the ultimate sacrafice on 9-11-01. HERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE HOTSHOTS, THE SHELTERS COULD NOT HAVE SAVED THIER LIVES. ARIZONA HOTSHOTSRest in Peace Brothers.
