First of all guys sorry if this post offends anybody. As most of you know I work as a Maintenance Supervisor for an apartment complex and if any of you work constructions, auto repair, etc., you all know that we have to buy our own tools. And then you get these lazy ass friggen kids who would rather steal than go out and get a real job.
For the second time in two years I have had part of my tools stolen. Yah that is right 700 dollars worth of power tools, and specialty tools gone. I have been looking at insurance for my tools but I am a lowly employee and I cannot find insurance for my tools so now I am stuck laying out the money for new drills and saws and multi meters and all the other stuff the punks stole.
AND YES I DO FEEL BETTER. Sorry for the rant guys, just very upset.

Sorry to hear that Dave, but most company's that make you purchase your own tools, your tools are insured if someone were to break in and steal them. I know my husband worked for a Ford and a Chevy Dealership and he had to purchase his tools and he had a receipt for every Snap-on, Mac, and other tools he purchased and he also had pictures of his tool box and all the tools in it, so if something were to happen he had documentation of everything, He had spent thousands of dollars just on the toolbox not including the tools in it which were a few thousand dollars more as most of you might know Snap-on and Mac tools are not cheap. But if your Company doesn't insure your tools from being stolen while on their property, I would be putting them in a toolbox and putting them in the trunk and bringing them home everyday. Or I would be telling them they need to purchase the tools you need to do your job if your own personal tools were not insured on their property. JMO

This is the second time I have had tools stolen and in both cases the company does cover the loss of the tools. They require that we have our own tools except for items like vacuum pumps for the A/C's, and the more specialty tools. I have worked at upper end complexes and it is the same story out here. The first thing my manager said to me when I told her what was stolen is that "the company is not responsible". We looked at a lot of things and the one thing that we noticed is that we had a lot of foot traffic through the complex last week as we were moving stuff from one shop to another due to mold in the main shop. And yes I have moved my tools that are left from the shop to the trunk of our car and am in the process of putting together two tool bags that I will take out of the car on a daily basics and use at work.
I know how expensive Snap On and Mac tools are just as DeWalt and Ryobi and other tools that I use on a daily basics. My Klien Multimeter was worth 150 dollars alone. You know I have dropped drills off the roof and ladders I have lost items and that is part of the business but it just agravates me that i have to clutter up the car everyday with my tools because some idiot needs the money for drugs, or booze or whatever they spend it on. And Thank you for your input shell, and I am taking pictures of each of the replacement tools that I buy and am recording the serial numbers and model numbers and keeping all the receipts. I have about three grand in hand tools and specialty tools.
