Hello all For the past few weeks, ever since the convention I have been tossing an idea around in my head about making my own Garage Dio and I started on that today. I thought I might as well since I have been home with bronchitis for the past couple of days and am getting very boarded. I had bought the foam board this past weekend and using it was the perfect test of how good I could do. I had just made the cuts on the shorter piece and had taken a piece of sandpaper to it to smooth out the edge. with the only tools that I needed. In this one I had just glued it together using Elmer's glue. and a piece of tape and now to let it sit and dry. Now off to find the right walls

Here are a few items that I recieved from Liv N Low as part of a RAOK package last week but have not had a chance to post. He sent the orange tool chest and the two motors and the two M2 Machines lifts. The ramps and the red tool chest came from Johnny Lightning and so did some of the tires. I plan on gluing four four tires together in a stack and having them stacked up around the shop.

Thanks Harry on both counts I am feeling better and hopefully will be back at work on Monday, Here is an update on my progress of the garage. I found a cement floor texture that I like and am using that as the floor of the shop. I am still looking for the wall paterns and pictures to work with so if you have any ideas please let me know.

Looking good Dave.... My pleasure is helping ya with some Dio stuff :) that was extras
I use many JL, GL, & M2s for parts in my Dios.... HWs or MB parts do not look right for parts as they look too plastic

Your right on that Liv, I was out for a little while today and found a GL Animal House Dio at TRU and I picked it up. It was hidden behind some other stuff in the DieCast row so I snatched it up. It is already scaled down to 1/64th and I just have to print it off. It will be next week before I am able to unless I have to run to Walmart or Office Max during the week. Here are the figures that I got with the GL Dio today.

If it were me I would of printed it all out meaning, on the brick wall put your doors and windows and what ever else you would like to put on the walls before printing it out. Plus I would of printed everything out and placed it on the walls before putting the garage together. Your off to a great start for your first one. Thumbs up

I was not going to use windows shell since I have not seen many garages with windows. I do plan on adding doors though and I dont have the software that will allow me to add the signs right now.

Really, you haven't seen any garages with windows? Thinking interesting... There are plenty of online photo editors online you can use for free like pixlr, fotoFlexer, etc. I used Microsoft Publisher to create my garage, but if you do not have Publisher I am sure you can use the free online editors to create your layers or download a free trial of Microsoft Office Professional with publisher and once you have it completed print it all at once. Just my opinion.

It's alot of fun Dave placing what you want before printing, but do remember you will need other things glued to the walls to give it a 3D effect so it look real..... I have many ideas running through my head for my next Dio :)

Ok have not made much progress yet but did ad a few pieces to it. The girlfriend found somewhere this week the Greenlight Muscle Car collection which each car came with a dio accessory so I have added them to my collection. The items that came with the Greenlight cars were: 1. Drill press 2. ramps 3. battery charger 4. jack 5. tool box, and 6. engine hoist. I plan on working on the walls sometime this next week and this weekend. But first I must go and get my drivers license for work or I will be busted down to a Tech in stead of a Supervisor. I gave up my license in 2006 due to eye issues and since have had some corrections made so I am scared. This weekend the girlfriend and I plan on taking me out and getting some practice in a parking lot.

No stressing out as it's just a Class C license.... I have an idea for ya... You take mine that is coming up this Aug and I will do yours ... Oh, and you will need to study 3 different tests for my license as it's a Commercial license. lol
Good luck Dave and stay calm.... Show no fear

I passed the written test with only two of 50 wrong. And I have been there and done that since I was on the fire department and even though the state of Nebraska at the time did not require us to take and pass a Commercial License test the department did, and we got to do the test in the rig we were driving. Tuesday I go for my driving test and I will be okay. I went out for about three hours today and drove around Las Vegas. I will drive some more tomorrow and will do some more driving on Monday and Tuesday before the Test.

I took Shell's advise and added some windows and doors and a couple of signs to the walls. I did it the hard old fashion way and printed them and glued them on to the card stock that I was working with for the walls. Here is one of the card stock walls. And here is the other one. Thanks for the tip Shell and Dan. I know shell is a computer wizz maybe she can point us in the direction of some good editing software and do a tutorial on how to do it. When I got the walls the way I wanted them I then copied them onto sticker paper and put them in place.

Now I did learn a couple of lessons here. First off all I jumped the gun and put the walls in place way toooooooooooooooooo soon. Oh Brother Surrender When I went to put the walls on it was a royal pain in the you know what to do. So the next one I will cut the walls and then put the sticker paper on first and then glue them in place. But you know what it is a learning curve. The other thing I learned is that it is much easier to put the sticker paper on then trim the walls as you have a guide. So the next one I make I will do that. But I have to say this I had a blast doing this and it is definitely worth the time money and effort. Even if this one did not turn out the way I wanted it too. But here is the finished product and I plan on scrapping it and starting all over. i'm also working on painting the pieces that stangfreak sent me so those will be in the next dio.

But if I do I will do the best I can to make a tutorial.
