As everybody know's my girlfriend and I finally got a house. And we got the keys to it today since I will be working on getting it ready, just on my days off power will not be on till Friday of this week so that is when I will do a lot more to the house. I want to start off with what the Garage I am going to have as mine looks like to start off. The walls are already roughed in with Drywall and I plan on doing the ceiling but not till I add some outlets. This is going to be the main display area of the garage. I also plan on painting the garage floor a battleship grey and putting a coat of clear coat on top of it. I plan on removing the existing shelves in the garage except for the ones by the water heater and where the washer and Dryer go. The area below has been declared off limits to me by the other half. She wants this section but I might just sneak some shelves here for the larger diecast and let have the lower portion of the wall. In front of the garage door I plan on doing a 4 x 8 foot city Diorama and in the middle will be my desk and my hot wheels race track. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions please I would love to hear them. Lets also see if we can get this thread going on what everybody has for Die Cast toy rooms aka Man Caves.

I use Styrofoam house insulation the blue or pink type . Strong... light... easy to carve ..2 feet by 8 feet by 2 inches thick. A unfinished project but you can see it is easy to carve a ditch or make a gravel road .

Hey bro that looks fantastic. I was lucky and found a 4 x 8 sheet of particle board in the garage I had hauled it out and put it under the awning in the back for now. I will be picking up a couple of 2 x 4's this week and using them to keep the wood from warping before I set it on the saw horses. But that is a couple weeks away.

Well you mentioned you wanted suggestions so here is another. Particle board works ok if you just want a flat service. Saw horses are a little low, after awhile working on a large diorama you get a sore back and wonder why.l.o.l. If you have a motorcycle dealer in your area some of them toss out the metal containers a bike comes in. Some sell the metal for scrap. Some are bolted together others are a welded top and bottom with bolt on sides. They make a strong table base my last train layout was huge and it was motorcycle crates bolted together. I had to cut some with a power hacksaw because it was a custom layout. All you need is one crate some are perfect just the way they are . And of course you can make a wood frame . But no matter what you decide saw horses are low unless you can adjust the height.

Well guys and galls we are all moved in and finally I have some time this weekend to work on the mancave. I did a little bit on Thanksgiving, spent a good part of the day smoking ribs, and worked on it for a while when I got home from work last night. Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner on the grill.

From Thursday when I was working on it One of the display cases is up and level. The door in this picture is going to be a work bench for building diorama buildings. Going by Home Depot today to get four 2 X 4's and have them cut down to about 42 inches and to about 50 inches to make the base. I am also going to have the Garage set up with duct work for heating and A/C in the couple of weeks waiting on one of the contractors that we use at work to give me a quote for it. I figured that would be the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

Love the "lawn" I wish I was bro, what was suppose be my weekend to work on the room ended up with me taking the paint roller away from the wife and repainting the front door frame and most of the overhang over the patio. Along with some other other items. I am getting ready to head out to the garage right now. Yah on the ribs the only one who like turkey in the house is my father in law so we decided to do ribs and the LAWN is your typical desert landscaping around here

Yah but that is going to be a project for another time because I am looking at doing something different.Along with the issue that the dryer vent is not run outside so if I do paint the floor right now the paint will get ruined the first time the wife runs the dryer.

Well all I made a lot of progress on the new Man Cave yesterday with the help of my Brother In Law. I found out that he loves these little cars as much as he loves the big ones. It was funny as we were unpacking the cars he would come across one that he had had or that one of his friends has or had. He also helped with the building of the base for the diorama table in the middle of the room. Here is the work bench that I made last week and I have started putting some of my patches up around it. More shelves up and more of the collection is out of the boxes,

The diorama table in the middle of the garage. I am thinking about putting a train on the table also. But have not made up my mind. I am going to use a 4 x 8 sheet of foam insulation on the table as the base of the diorama. The Whole Table cost me about 3 dollars in screws and 14 dollars in 2 x 4's the Particle board was on the patio and the landlord has no use for it so it was the best price of all FREE. Some of my more recent purchases that I will post when the room is totally finished.

It is still such a mess but I am making progress in there. One of the Heating and Cooling vendors that we use is going to come in in three weeks and install a new duct from the kitchen to garage to help take away some of the cold and heat. I also am working on getting one of these types of portable heaters/air conditions for the garage. We use them all the time at work to give residents heat in the winter and a/c during the summer when their units go out. They also have a dehumidifier function on them too.
