Every collector has that special car - or cars, they wish someone would make. Occasionally I've heard someone in passing say they would actually help fund development costs, if somebody would only make a certain car. I think AutoWorld being a smaller, private company, could actually fund an entire project purely through collector contributions - If they had an organized plan where enough of them could contribute.
This is going to sound like a shameless plug, but maybe some of you have heard of www.kickstarter.com For those who haven't, it's "the worlds largest funding platform for creative projects." Anyone who is trying to develop something - whether it's a product or creative endeavor, and needs funding for it, can post their concept on Kickstarter. So people who like what they see, and want to see it come to fruition can contribute money to your project. Many proposed projects are small - maybe someone is trying to make a short film, and they need $10,000 to do it. But some of the projects that have been funded on Kickstarter are in the millions of dollars. Just visit the site and you will see what they do, and how it works... I think this would be an ideal platform for AW to raise development funds, directly from collectors, who could contribute financially towards the making of specific castings that may otherwise never be made.
Everything begins with an idea, so let me know what you all think! Perhaps the right people will see it, and do something with it.

Pick one - something you would love to see in diecast, but preferably something that's never been made. I want everyone to pick one, and we'll see what sticks. Maybe we can come to a consensus on one particular car to start. This thread is primarily to get a dialogue going. And then we talk cars.

I would have voted to invest more, but I had to keep it at under $100 as I spent most of my budget on gas driving around trying to find AWs I WILL be looking forward to getting them online.Even with the shipping it works out cheaper, and that way I will be supporting some of our sponsors rather than big box store. My dream selection would be toward coupes and convertibles from the 40's & 50's,and some 60's. O.K.,throw in a '67 Buick Wildcat,'70 Eldorado and Coupe DeVille, etc. I think the musclecars are pretty well covered by others or I would have asked for a '70 Cuda (not Barracuda)

It would be great for AW to do, but don't most companies have rules about unsolicited submissions? I believe that's why alot of cars people request aren't done.

That's generally the policy when it comes to original ideas or intellectual property that the person submitting could sue over. But there is no liability in someone requesting a '67 Grand Prix for example. It would just be a matter of whether or not General Motors wants to grant a license to AW, who have actively sought recommendations for future projects. I know they've done this on HT at least. It only makes sense to ask your clientele what they want.
