I took this HW casting and cut it apart. I pitched the wheels and gave it a repaint and some detail to come up with a hydroplane racer !!!

I took the ole Dodge to the tire shop for some new shoes. Then back to the garage to hook up, then to the speed shop for some last minute adjustments, and then, off to the track !

What a great story Steve, I wish my grandmother did the same while growing up, but unfortunately that never happened back in the 70s... My grandmother would visit from time to time with goodies for all us, but not to the extent in out doing my mother when buying diecast... I owned close to 200 HW Redlines, but I only have maybe 30 or so left from my childhood... I look at them from time to time remembering all the fun I had in the dirt... lol ... Yes you heard that right >>> In the dirt ... hahahaha That's awesome... You can sure tell the difference in the ones I had at granny's house and the ones I played with at home (in the flower bed). Grandma would never let me go outside to play, always inside on the carpet.. LOL... I think that's why they were in such good shape when we found them, except for 3 inches of dust on the cases... LOL

This is my ultimate diecast collection ! I value these cars more than anything I have owned or do own. All are in original, great condition and played with very little. I had a grandmother that liked to try to outdo my mother, so every time my mom bought me cars, my grandma had to do the same. She made me keep them at her house so I could play with them when I visited. When I turned 12-13 I didn't go visit so much and she put them in her basement storage. She passed away in 75 and my grandpa sold the house about 1980. We found these while we were cleaning out the house. 3 cases of standard vintage Matchbox cars, The Cooper-Jarrett Truck Set, and 2 cases of the Models of Yesteryear. I couldn' have been more happy if I won the lotto !!!...These are what started all this !!!

I still get a lot of messages asking about these trailers I've been making for the past 5 years or so. I have put together a new page on my website for those of you who wish to give building a trailer a shot. It just shows the basic lay-outs and some tips to try to help anyone out. Check it out and let me know what you think !!!

I received this HW Thunderbolt as an RAOK from Vernon Stamm (The Outlaw). He used the rear wheels for one of his fabulous customs. I did a bunch of cutting, filing, and fabricating to get these wide M2 meats to fit under this HW casting. It rolls freely and straight, and came out pretty good. Ever since I was a kid at the track, I remember this look, wide black rimmed slicks and little magged front wheels. Always liked that look. This one takes me back a few years. Now it's on the trailer and ready for the track to see how it holds up !

I don't go for the "Chase" scene of any brand of diecast. I did collect Treasure Hunts sor several years. Not because of the money, or because I had something no one else had, but only the ones I thought were cool looking and looked like a normal car. I always did like the fact of nicer wheels though. Here are some cars I made to look 100% better with just a simple wheel swap. Package stock cars with new shoes !!!

I just noticed something about this GL 65 Mustang and this JL 65 Mustang. The loose JL I have had for a long, long time and it was released as a Project in Progress Mustang. The GL one in the package was just released in this movie set as the Mustang from "Fright Night" They are the exact same... JL also released a PIP yellow Vega that was in the movie "Never been kissed"... What's up with that ?GL Stang:JL Stang:

I couldn't believe it. They opened a new Walmart in my home town of Westerville, Ohio and I went to check it out. I went straight to the diecast isle and these were the only two on the pegs. Almost like they knew I was coming for them... LOL... I just found the green AW Mustang and pink Dart at TRU a few days earlier for $1.09 each too.
